The SimyGames (specially designed gaming apps) are controlled by the SimyBall using movement interactions and play buttons. The vital statistics recorded during use are integrated into a personalized and fascinating gaming experience and determine the user’s success.

Google Developer Proves Apple iPhone X Apps Secretly Recording Your Data

Cybercriminals can use iPhone apps to secretly turn on your front or back camera at any time, a security expert has warned.

Google engineer Felix Krause was able to build an app that silently takes a picture of its user every second and then uploads them to the internet.

He said the issues is a ‘privacy loophole that can be abused by iOS apps’.

The only safe way to protect yourself from the hack is using camera covers, which can be bought online, through a simple sticky note will suffice.

You can also revoke camera access for all apps and always use the built-in camera app to avoid being caught out.

Recently a Florida TV station ran a news story suggesting that Facebook uses your phone’s microphone to listen to your conversations and serves up ads based on what you talk about. After the story blew up on (of course) social media, Facebook published a statement saying that it doesn’t listen to your conversations for the purpose of selling ads. But, Facebook says, it does use your microphone “if you have given our app permission and if you are actively using a specific feature that requires audio,” such as the feature that allows you to include music you’re listening to in a status update.

When an app wants to access your camera, for instance, to take a profile photo during set-up, it must first ask for permission.

Once granted, this permission can only be revoked via the settings menu.

Mr Krausse, based in Vienna, Austria, said that once an app is opened, it can take photos and video of the user via either camera at any time.

The iPhone gives no indication that the camera is being used or that the photos are being uploaded to the internet.

‘iOS users often grant camera access to an app soon after they download it (e.g., to add an avatar or send a photo),’ he wrote in a blog post.

‘These apps, like a messaging app or any news-feed-based app, can easily track the users face, take pictures, or live stream the front and back camera, without the user’s consent.

In Apple’s latest operating system, iOS11, permission to access your camera means apps can use the software’s facial recognition system.

This means that malicious apps could be used to secretly detect the emotions of users.

The loophole found by Mr Krause is not a bug but simply takes advantage of the way Apple has set up its permission system.

Mr Krause demonstrated this by building a malicious app that took a photo of its user every second and also tapped into a facial recognition programme.

He said other apps could live stream video of users, read their emotions as they scroll through a social network feed, or record what they are saying.

Mr Krausse said Apple should bring in a system of temporary permissions to stop any malicious apps meddling with users’ cameras.

These permissions would involve allowing apps to take a picture during the set-up process but taking it away after a short period of time.

The other option would be for Apple to introduce a warning light that lets people know when they are being recorded.

Twitter has more than doubled its count for users’ display names from 20 to 50 characters, days after the social media giant ended the iconic 140-character tweet limit.

The San Francisco-based company announced on Friday that a user can add a display name of up to 50 characters, up from the original 20 characters. The change comes as a relief to many users who have bigger names or want to add color to their names.

“Starting today, your Twitter display name can be up to 50 characters in length! Go ahead, add that middle name or even a few more emojis,” said Twitter. The company announced last week that it was rolling out a 280-character tweet limit for nearly all its users, including for those who tweet in Hindi, abandoning its famous 140-character limit.

“We’re expanding the character limit! We want it to be easier and faster for everyone to express themselves,” Twitter said. The move was both appreciated and mocked by the users. “The best bit about 280 is never having to shorten whilst, amidst, and amongst ever again,” posted one user. “I’ve always thought that 140 characters were too little to effectively convey one’s thoughts,” another user wrote.

“The whole point of Twitter was its brevity #280characters,” a Twitterati wrote. “Already massively bored by everyone’s mind-numbing 280 character tweets. This is a terrible mistake,” another user said. Users can lengthen their Twitter display name — which is not the same as username — by going to your profile page and tapping edit profile. They can change their username through the settings and privacy menus, however, it has to be unique and cannot exceed 50 characters.

A fake and possibly malicious version of Facebook-owned WhatsApp was found lurking on Google Play Store.

A fake and possibly malicious version of Facebook-owned WhatsApp was found lurking on Google Play Store as “Update WhatsApp Messenger” with developer name as ‘WhatsApp Inc*’.

When IANS checked it on the Play Store, we found the app has been downloaded up to 5,000 times. There is another version under the same name which has a million downloads.

The original WhatsApp has 1 billion downloads.

The existence of the shady software was first highlighted by the popular WhatsApp change tracking website WABetaInfo, via Twitter user @MujtabaMHaq, IB Times reported late on Thursday.

According to the report, a version of popular mobile game Temple Run 2 can also be found which was uploaded in October.

The software posing as WhatsApp Business already have several users complaining about it in the comments section.

“DON’T DOWNLOAD THIS APP! IT’S FAKE! WhatsApp Business is not officially available yet for all,” the WABetaInfo social media account tweeted to its 30,000 followers.

It added: “Check only official channels to download WhatsApp Business in future.”

WhatsApp Business is yet to launch as a standalone service.

The feature is in its final stages and WhatsApp employees are testing it out the WhatsApp pay, according to a person with knowledge of the plan.

“They are likely to do some sort of an extended beta program for the feature in November and by December you can expect a full rollout,” the person said, asking to stay anonymous.

The Facebook-owned company has partnered with three banks – State Bank of India, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank, three of India’s biggest banks, to launch WhatsApp pay.

The uniqueness of the WhatsApp payments or WhatsApp pay feature is that a user can make payments without leaving the chat interface just like sharing a contact or location on the instant messenger. According to the person quoted earlier, who has worked closely with WhatsApp, a window with a Rupee symbol will pop up alongside buttons that allow users to share a location or a contact when a user clicks on the attach symbol in the chat window.

On clicking the Rupee button (in India), the user can either send or request money. The user can input the amount to be paid and personal identification number before hitting send. On the other end, the receiver will get a notification, similar to the one when you receive a contact. There is an option to accept or reject the request.

In April, The Ken had reported that WhatsApp was working on the feature and is likely to roll that out in the next 6 months. A Twitter user, Raj S, on Saturday tweeted: “Just saw a couple of WhatsApp #UPI screens; payments players should start shitting bricks right now. No, seriously.”

WhatsApp’s entry into space threatens digital wallet companies, as the instant messenger counts over 200 million users in India, the largest user base it has in the world. The WhatsApp experience is slick and convenient to make payments, as per users who have seen the feature.

This is the first time WhatsApp is launching a feature like this anywhere in the world. What makes it easy for the company is that India has built a payments stack called unified payments interface, which makes it easy for others to integrate with the banks.

“The market is absolutely ripe for a WeChat like play,” points out Jasminder Gulati, the co-founder of Nowfloats. His company helps small and medium businesses build a presence online. Small and medium business across India use WhatsApp extensively to do business. Consulting firm Zinnov estimates that nearly 2 million women sell products using WhatsApp and Facebook, totalling sales of $8-9 billion. This is projected to grow to $48-60 billion by 2022, Zinnov said.

To understand why this is so powerful, A similar trend was adopted by the Chinese equivalent of WhatsApp – WeChat. Being a chat platform, WeChat had launched a payment option for its users and since then, has become a major player in the payments market. If WhatsApp is able to roll-out this feature efficiently, it may become a tough competitor for the existing payment platforms in India including Paytm, Mobikwik and others.

In the first quarter of 2017, WeChat Pay had nearly 40% market share in China while Alipay had about 54% share, according to research firm Analysys. In 2014, Alipay had 80% market share. China’s mobile payments sector is estimated to be about $5.5 trillion in size.

With the payments interface, India has become a sort of ground zero for digital payments innovation. Companies like Google, Amazon and Uber are getting in on the action alongside players like PhonePe, Paytm and MobiKwik.
